DPA Notts
Disabled People's Advocacy Nottinghamshire
Who We Are:
Disabled People's Advocacy Nottinghamshire (DPA Notts), formerly known as Nottingham Young Disabled People, formed in 1992.
We are an organisation of and for physically disabled people or those with sensory impairment aged between 18 and 65, living in the City of Nottingham and surrounding boroughs.
DPA Notts is run by a management committee made up of disabled people and it is our policy to employ disabled people as staff.
We employ one part-time Development Worker who has responsibility for supervising other staff and volunteers, facilitating groups, liaising with statutory and voluntary bodies, recruiting, training and supervising volunteers, providing a direct advocacy service, and working with the Management Committee to maintain and develop the service.
We also employ a part-time Administration and Group Support Worker, who has responsibility for administrative, facilitation, and secretarial support for groups and training, as well as the Management Committee. This worker has also undertaken ICT teacher training through the Cascade project, and assists group members in increasing their knowledge of the use of computers.
Our Management Committee takes responsibility for the strategic development of the service and the management and supervision of staff. Committee meetings take place approximately every 6 weeks and members undertake specific work for the service on an ongoing basis. We are always looking for new members to join our committee and we welcome offers of assistance at any time during the year.
We also use volunteers as an essential part of our service delivery, who are physically disabled people or those with sensory impairment. There are volunteering opportunities in working as advocates or in clerical support in the office. Please contact the office for further details
We are funded by Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council, and income has been supplemented by other one-off grants for example from the Community Fund.
